Giuliano Modarelli - Guitar

Originally from Italy, Giuliano Modarelli is an eclectic guitarist unique in his style. During his musical training he went through many different types of music: from Western Classical to heavy rock… Giuliano is a guitarist of modern times. Having studied Jazz at university, he went on to develop through the Indian classical tradition studying under UK renowned sitarist Dharambir Singh and Indian classical maestro Buddhadev Dasgupta. His unique style is a subtle blend of World Folk, Arabic, Flamenco, Latin and Eastern European. His breadth of knowledge and soulful improvisation make him a musician well worth listening to. He has been awarded by the Arts Council England, SAA-UK, Sampad, Milapfest and many other organizations, with grants and scholarships for personal development, which enabled him to take master class and work with some of the world most respected musicians (L. Subramanian, J. Bose, Pt Ajoy Chakraborty and more…)

Giuliano is also part part of the international project Sunev featuring Grammy Award winner tabla star Bikram Gosh. He recently has been collaborating with Bikram in writing and performing for the sound-track for new Sooni Taraporevala film Little Zizou (out in the cinemas in 2008/09).

Giuliano has been writing music for theatre and dance and touring nationally and internationally with many companies, such as Motion Manual, Diversity Dance, Red Ladder Theatre. He also has been developing various music projects in the UK (Klezmer Trip with Bill Laurance, My Journey wth Manvir Singh, Nshwa, Raga Nova and more) performed in prestigius venues through out the country (the Purcell Room, Bridgewater Hall, CBSo, and the BBC venue/Radio). He performed several times at Darbar Festival, Music Port, Bestival, Womex 05, andy many more jazz and world festivals.
